Hayley Kiyoko, who SUSPEND readers will remember from the cover of ISSUE 05, has just released her label debut EP titled ‘Citrine’. The roughly 18-minute EP features five new tracks and opens up with the first single release, “Gravel to Tempo,” a new pop anthem on self-empowerment with a music video to match (directed by Hayley herself). SUSPEND got a chance to interview Hayley last night during her EP release party at Soho House in West Hollywood where we caught up with the singer-songwriter-actress.

Majority of the tracks of ‘Citrine’ were written during a trip earlier this year to Ojai where Hayley worked with her producers 4e and Bram Inscore. Ready with a journal in-hand filled with ideas of how she wanted her songs to sound, the collaborative effort between the trio resulted in new tracks like “One Bad Night” and “Palace” – offering a fresh new take on modern pop, crafty electronics, and melodic songcraft.

Still basking in the unexpected success of the “Girls Like Girls” video she co-directed with Austin Winchell (surpassing over 47 million views on YouTube), Hayley praises her fans for giving her the confidence to continue writing songs that mean something to her.

With more flirty tracks like “Pretty Girl” and “One Bad Night,” long-time fans and new listeners will embrace the airy, ethereal tracks off ‘Citrine’ that immediately take us to our happy place. Hayley will begin a series of high profile live dates for her upcoming “The One Bad Night Tour,” set to kick-off November 2nd in New York City at Webster Hall.
