UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, RIVERSIDE - Thursday May 29th 2014. Students, parents, and locals of Riverside County made their way into the Student Recreational Center at UCR to embrace the wise words of one of the most renowned directors, writers and producers – Spike Lee. Since the University is nearing the end of its last quarter, the Associated Students Program Board (ASPB) organized this special on-campus engagement with Spike Lee with hopes to inspire students to follow their dreams. The "Do The Right Thing" (1989) filmmaker touched up on topics such as how and why he originally got into his passion for Film, his position at NYU as an Artistic Director, and how certain films he created are largely based on his own life. During the end of his speech, Lee had the audience take part in asking him "intellectual questions" which involved his incident with Reggie Miller and also anecdotes about the making of "Malcolm X" (1992) as well as "He Got Game" (1998). Two lucky individuals in the crowd were given a unique takeaway gift at the end of the night – Lee's own personal phone number, with the intent to help the individuals achieve their respective dreams.
