In anticipation of his follow up album to Get Home Safely, Los Angeles rapper Dom Kennedy held a private listening session party last night for his upcoming June 2nd album By Dom Kennedy with a full tracklist released on his label, OpM (Other People's Money). Held at the top of a 30-story loft in Downtown Los Angeles, the Leimert Park rapper - dressed down in jeans and a baseball cap - listened alongside guests as each song was played throughout the evening by DREWBYRD (DJ and founder of 40s and Shorties). Kennedy, who stills reigns as a heavily rooted independent artist, released his free album titled Yellow Album in 2012 and Get Home Safely in October 2013. A regular of Fairfax, Kennedy has his studio above Flight Club and vintage boutique Tried and True Co. For any of our early readers, Dom also gave us permission to include one of his tracks on our hand-recorded 90-minute cassette mixtapes, titled "SUSPEND YOUR SUMMER," which we distributed in an edition of 50 at our ISSUE 02 release party on Fairfax on July 19, 2012. Fact of the day! (Thanks for that, Dom.) Also in attendance last night were Warm Brew and manager, Ryan Rodriguez.
